Leon M Henry

June 24, 1943 — April 21, 2023

Gloucester

Find a woman and you’ll find love. Be a simple man, composed of principle and compassion. Something we love and something we understand. Leon M. Henry made a family his own, not by blood, but by heart.  He was simple, in a kind, sincere and sweet manner. Now, he could be hard-headed but his huge heart instilled character, dignity, love, and most of all, respect.

On April 21, 2023, after 79 years The unthinkable became the unspeakable. After years of weakening, Leon passed away at Cooper Hospital in Camden. Our tears not only fell, they crashed around us. One day, we will know how lucky we were to know his love with wonder, not grief.

Leon was born in Camden and had spent his formative years in the Cramer Hill neighborhood,  subsequently moving to Gloucester that became his hometown where he raised his family. He was a social butterfly that stuck to his routine. His shining personality was funny, engaging, and welcoming. He loved to cook, be in the company of others, and spend time with his giant family, including trips to Delaware and the Amish markets among other special moments. Leon worked as the owner and operator of J & L Roofing in Gloucester and loved the Pick 3.

Luck be a lady and Leon hit the lottery! What started as a drink, established them in love that lasted 48 years. Some families are messed up while others are fine. If you think yours is crazy, well, you should see mine. Mr. Henry is survived by his dedicated and loving wife. Leon was solace, a safe harbor, and a once-in-a-lifetime love and companion to Aliema “Beanie” Henry (nee Chiccino). His heart, dedication, willingness, and acceptance fulfilled the lives of his children; John & his wife Denise, Gidget & her husband Gene, Michelle, and Leighann & her husband Billy. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were “his babies”. He is the proud grandfather of; Jonathan & his wife Brittny, Jason & his wife Jaime, Jessica (Goddaughter) & her husband Chris, Justin & his wife Lindsay, Marissa & her fiance Jason, Anthony & his fiance Lillian, Matthew, Timothy & his fiance Katie, Shayne, Brandon, Felisha and great grandfather of; Harper, Haidley, Briella, Bryah, Anastasia, Jason Jr., McKenna, Elijah, Ezekiel, Kingsley, Kash, Scarlett, Delaney, Savannah, Bella, Anthony Jr., Malakai, and Joziah. Leon is the brother of Lady Sullivan, Lillian Henry, and was predeceased by his parents James W. Henry and Georgia May,  His siblings, Evelyn Becker, Sylvia Greeley, Thomas Henry, Edward Henry, “Whitey” Henry, Charles, and Bertha Henry.
