John W Courter, Sr.

November 23, 1944 — December 9, 2020

Some people are born good-looking. Some have the gift of gab.  A man’s gift of gab may take him to where his character cannot keep him.  A man’s character defines who he is.  John W. Courter, Sr. was that man with the gift of gab. He expressed himself with eloquence and fluency for 76 years until he was called home on December 9, 2020 at Virtua- Our Lady of Lourdes in Camden.  He was born to the late Earl and Esther Courter (nee Danielson) on November 23, 1944 in Camden City.  John is predeceased by his son John Courter, Jr. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his son Jeffrey Courter and his wife Bridget, his brother Earl Courter and his wife Janet, his ex-wife Gloria Dunn and her husband John, his cousin Charles as well as his granddaughter Summer and good friend Lucy. Just as our fingerprints are one-of-a-kind, so is our identity.  Each of us is a once-only articulation of what humans can be.  John was exactly that, one-of-a-kind.  He was witty, and just an all around happy-go-lucky guy.  John was an eccentric collector, and loved playing pinochle with Earl and Janet.

I know nothing more enjoyable than that happy-go-lucky wandering life, in which you are perfectly free; without shackles of any kind, without care, without preoccupation, without thought even of tomorrow.  You go in any direction you please, without any guide.

Relatives and friends are invited to join John’s family to celebrate his life on Thursday morning between 9:00 am and 10:00 am at Creran Celebration Celebration Etherington & Creran Funeral Homes, 700 Powell Street, Gloucester City, NJ 08030 with burial to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.  To share your heartfelt memories of John, please visit www.crerancelebration.com #hearfelt #crerancelebration
