July 26, 1924 — October 29, 2022

You honor life by sharing your story. You honor life by recognizing those stories that mean something to you, and you carry on values, stories and lives by sharing. Our stories bring us together. Helen C. Wagner (nee Fries) was sharp as a tack. She never held back but was a gentle soul who had a story for everything. But, if you were out of line… you were OUT of the will!

Helen was both hellfire and holy water. She came from, and was the youngest child of, a large family of German Emmigrants who came to America a little over 100 years ago. She was born in our nation’s cradle, Philadelphia and had spent her formative years in St. Vincent’s Orphanage. Helen made her career in Accounting and had spent her working years at Reliance Insurance in Philadelphia. Helen & her husband enjoyed a portion of their retired years and had spent 15 years living in North Port, FL.  She was an avid fan (of our now National Leage Champion) Phillies, spending time pressing lady luck in the Atlantic City casinos and ohh, those Wildwood days… Helen enjoyed the organized chaos and bargains at area flea markets. At home, she was a cat lady, enjoyed the show tunes of Lawrence Welk, crossword puzzles, game shows and getting cozy with a good book.

The loss is immeasurable, but so is the love left behind. Helen is the widow of her late husband George, Sr. and was predeceased by her son George, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children; Lois & her husband John Pena, Stephen R. & his wife Betty, and Denise & her husband Arthur, “Artie Face” Ackerman. She is the proud grandmother of 15 and great grandmother of 20. Helen was predeceased by all of her siblings as well as her sister-in-law Gertrude Hanlon but is also survived and will be sadly missed by her daughter-in-law Dawn Wagner.

Relatives, friends and neighbors are invited to gather with the Wagner family after the Phillies wrap up the World Series in game 5. We’ll come together to take comfort in each other and share our heartfelt stories on Friday evening between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm and on Saturday morning between 9:00 am and 10:15 am at Creran Celebration Etherington & Creran Funeral Homes 400 White Hore Pike, Oaklyn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday morning at St. Rose of Lima Church 300 E. Kings Highway, Haddon Heights. A graveside tribute and the witness of love’s reunion will immediately follow at New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr.
