E-bituary

Dance as though no one was watching, sing as though no one was listening, and live as though it were Heaven on earth. Alberta S. Bertie LaTorre (nee Spadea) was a distinct, fiercely independent mother and grandmother who was faithful in the small things that connected her days. Bertie loved to dance, she was a great singer, and enjoyed pressing her luck at the Atlantic City casinos.

No one knows what awaits the dead. But, God himself will be with them. And death shall be no more. Neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore. For, the former things have passed away. During the very early morning hours of Wednesday, February 1st, after 88 years, we turned Bertie over from time to Heaven. Just as St. Theresa had picked a rose from the heavenly gardens and sent it as a message of love, we placed Bertie with confidence in God’s hands.

Bertie was born into this world on that special day we celebrate love. Her circle of days began in Camden and although she had traveled a bit, she was a longtime Audubon resident. Bertie was an active and dedicated parishioner of the Holy Maternity parish, in Audubon, before moving to Voorhees to be with her son. Bertie was a self-employed operator of cloakrooms during the quintessential days of the hotel industry when everyone dressed for going out.  Bertie always looked as exquisite as anyone who gave her a fur or hat to check. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph The Worker Parish, St. Vincent Pallotti Church in Haddonfield, and shared the joys of “Murffy” the dog, at home with “Jeep”.

Alberta is the daughter of the late Samuel & his late wife Jenny (nee Hines) Spadea. She created a north star of love that we can all look up to. Bertie leaves to cherish her memory, her son Eugene “Jeep” & her daughter-in-law Therese LaTorre. She is the proud grandmother to; Michael & his wife Amanda Wagner, Krista LaTorre, Victor & his wife Heather, and great-grandmother of Lorianna, R.J., Tristan, Lily, and Kai.

Bertie and her family are grateful to Susan Carlucci-Fahy, who was truly a friend in need and shared days filled with love and westerns and singing with Bertie. Also grateful for all of her friends, who stayed in touch with decades of memories.

Relatives, friends, neighbors, and the faithful parishioners of St. Joseph The Worker parish are invited to gather with the LaTorre family. We’ll come together and take comfort in each other on Monday morning between 10:30 and 11:30 am at Creran Celebration Etherington & Creran Funeral Homes 400 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn, where we will celebrate Bertie’s life in faith at 11:30 am. Fr. Walter Norris, presiding. A graveside tribute will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill.
