Obituary

The most precious stones have been tossed by wind and smoothed by water. Just as stones, we have been polished by the gifts of our father... The wisdom of his years, the strength of his values, and the patience of his understanding. We can achieve everything by being sincere and humble. William J. Harris loved and filled his days with the good things, good days, and good moments. He loved Phillies baseball, “Iggles” football, and a good diner. Bill’s adored for his quiet love spoken through care and concern. He was a good dad, a proud “Pop Pop,” and a caring husband, brother, and caretaker.

We have memories longer than the road that stretches ahead. But we’ve reached the age where life stops giving and starts taking away. Don’t fear it’s sadness, it tends to sit next to love. Our dad’s road had come to an end on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Cooper Hospital, after just 87 years, and one day we will know how lucky we were to have known his love with wonder, not grief.

Bill was born in neighboring Camden and had been a lifelong Gloucester neighbor. He made his career as a sheet metal worker, spending his working years as part of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association, Local 19 in Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Harris was established in love in August of 1960 and enjoyed 60 years raising his family alongside his loving wife until her passing in 2020. At home, Bill enjoyed time in the kitchen, tending to his garden, and quiet time fishing for the “big one”.

Our loss is immeasurable, but so is the love left behind. Mr. Harris is the son of the late Lester & his wife, Julia (nee Schwiering) Harris. Bill was predeceased by his loving wife, Catherine (nee Long) Harris. He leaves to treasure his memory, his children, Linda & her husband Bob Kutz, Donna Budden, Cathy & her husband Bernie Dubois, Karen Harris, and Bill & his wife Coleen Harris. He is the proud grandfather of 12, great-grandfather of 17, and brother of Julie Ann Harris, as well as the late Frank Harris, Marie Ezzi, and Patricia Karlsen. He is also survived and will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, a lifetime of friends, and all of his sheet metal brothers.

Relatives, friends, and neighbors are invited to gather with the Harris family. We’ll come together in tribute and thanksgiving to take comfort in each other on Wednesday evening between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, in the chapel, at St. John of God Community Services, 1147 Delsea Dr, Westville, where a funeral and remembrance ceremony will begin at 8:00 pm. A graveside tribute will be held privately at New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr.

As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory can be made to the St. John of God Community Services, 1147 Delsea Dr., Building A, Westville, NJ 08093, or by clicking the link below.
