Robert G. Cucunato

February 11, 1948 — May 19, 2025

Blackwood

Being Santa Claus is being someone who loves another and seeks to make them happy; who gives himself by thought, word, or deed in every gift he gives. He doesn’t come down through your chimney; he enters your heart, and his gifts are not just presents but the joy he brings to your home. It’s the starting place of love, hope, and dreams. It’s where love resides, memories are created, friends always belong, and laughter never ends.

The magic of Christmas is a heart full of gratitude and generosity. Robert G. Cucunato’s magic was constant and generous. His presence made you feel safe and seen with open arms and an open heart. One day we will know how lucky we were to have known his love with wonder, not grief.

This past Saturday morning, May 17th, we were abruptly woken by a nightmare that shook our family to its core. We learned very quickly how terrible it is to deeply love something that death can touch. Our Dad and Pop Pop passed away unexpectedly, just after 77 years, at Jefferson Hospital in Washington Township. To the world, Dad, you were just a father. But to your family, you were our world.

Bob was born in Philadelphia and had been a longtime Blackwood neighbor. Family was everything, the truest treasure of his life. He led with love, taught with patience, and believed that the best gift he could give was himself. In every way that mattered. His faith was unshakable, the foundation upon which he built his life. He carried it quietly but powerfully, offering grace and strength when others needed it most. Bob’s home had contributed to the manpower of our great nation. He served to uphold the ideals of our American freedoms in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam years. He made his career in sales at FedEx, was a member of the Holy Crusaders Knights of Columbus, Council 9193, The Bishop James Shad 4th Degree Assembly 2843, and was “Best Friends” with Santa.

True love is a soul’s recognition of its counterpart in another. Bob and JoAnn (nee Bruccoleri) were established in love in the fall of 1970, enjoying 54 years of marriage and life together. A testament to what it means to build a life hand in hand through seasons of joy and challenge, with a love that only deepened with time. Together, they created a life rich in laughter, filled with shared dreams, and grounded in the kind of love that doesn’t fade, it grows, generation after generation.

Bob is survived by his children, Nicole & her husband Michael deBeaumont, and Bobby and his wife Carisa Cucunato. He is the proud Pop Pop of Alexis, Joseph, Zac and Lily. He is also survived and will be sadly missed by his sister, Suzanne Scull, his brother, Frank Cucunato, and his sister, Denise Frederico as well as his nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. Bob was predeceased by his sister, Stephanie Benner.

Relatives, friends, neighbors, and brother Knights are invited to gather with the Cucunato family. We’ll come together in tribute and in thanksgiving to remember Bob, pay tribute to a legacy of love, hope, and honor a loving husband, father, Pop Pop, and brother on Friday evening between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm at Creran Celebration Etherington & Creran Funeral Homes, 400 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn. A brief gathering will be held on Saturday morning between 10:30 am and 11:00 am at Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Agnes Catholic Church, 701 Little Gloucester Rd, Blackwood, where a memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am.  As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Gift of Life, www.donors1.org, 401 N. 3rd St.. Philadelphia, PA 19123.
