She had an innate caring nature that was shared through humor and spontaneity. Renee Fern Smith had a soft spot for the underdog, cheering them on with an unwavering faith that light could be found even in the hardest of places, finding solace in faith. Renee passed away on July 10, 2025, at her home in Lakewood, NJ.
Renee was born in 1957 in Kansas City, Missouri, and has spent her more recent years in Lakewood. She made her career as a medical technician in both PA and NJ, and was an unapologetic Philadelphia Eagles fan, always ready with a cheer (or a spirited critique)! As a young adult, Renee held a degree in advertising and was a lifelong lover of words and storytelling. She enjoyed composing and reading poetry, and aspired to one day author a children's book. She loved shopping, her music loud, pressing lady luck at the slots in Atlantic City, and adored her dogs, Marcy, Pepper, Isabel, Beverly, Brutus, Sophie, and Sibel.
God doesn't leave us where we are. He’ll lead us to separate us from what’s limiting and bring us to better. Renee leaves behind her daughters, Brittney & her husband Jacob Firestone, and Cory & her husband Michael Doumas. She is the proud grandmother of Georgia Doumas, Thea Dounmas, Levi Firestone, and Avery Firestone. Renee was predeceased by her brother, Arnold Sheer, but is also survived and will be sadly missed by her dear friend, David York, and her lifelong friends, Wendy Adams and Deyonia Waugh.
Friends are welcome to gather with the Renee’s family on Saturday, August 16th, between 10:00 am and 11:00 am at Creran Celebration Etherington & Creran Funeral Homes 400 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn, where the sharing of reflections will follow, during which those who wish to speak and share memories are welcome. The age-old tradition of reuniting our lost with nature will be held privately.
