The liturgy for the dead is an Easter liturgy. It finds all its meaning in the resurrection. Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we too, shall be raised high. The faithful shall be set free of earthly bonds and their spirit shall soar as a dove singing praises eternally. Patricia A. Reader (nee Mullen) was dedicated to her faith and her family. Over 90 years she only grew old in her face. She was treasured and cared for with loving grace. Faith is the bird that feels the light and sings while the dawn is still dark. On Sunday, April 30, 2023, our darkest days took us through the valley of the shadow of death. Heaven had lit her way and Pat’s soul had risen like incense from her home in Haddon Twp.
Mrs. Reader was born in Camden and had found her little patch of heaven in Haddon Twp. She was established in love in 1953 and enjoyed 66 years of marriage until her husband’s passing in August of 2019. Pat made her career as a secretary spending many years at the Oaklyn & Haddon Heights School Districts until her retirement. Following her working years, she volunteered time in the gift shop at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden. Mrs. Reader had been a longtime, dedicated, and active parishioner of St. Joseph The Worker Parish, St. Aloysius Church in Oaklyn. During her early years, she had volunteered her time at the, now defunct, St. Aloysius School. In later years she had served the parish as a Eucharistic Minister.
Time spent laughing is time spent with God. Pat loved to travel and enjoyed summers with her family and husband in Ocean City. She held onto lifelong friendships, as far back as first grade, with her “club” of friends. At home, she enjoyed getting cozy reading a good book.
Mrs. Reader is the widow of her late husband, David B. Reader, Sr. She is survived by her children; David, Jr., Patricia Davison, and James & his wife Terry Reader. Pat is the proud grandmother of David, III, Kristina Kostka, Michelle Reader, Joshua Rommelmann, Kelly Reader, Andrew Rommelmann, and great-grandmother of; William, James, Patrick, Hailey Grace, and Dominic. Mrs. Reader was the sister of and predeceased by; Catherine, Margaret James, and Mary Ellen. Goodnight and joy be to you all.
Relatives, friends, neighbors, and parishioners are invited to gather with the Reader family. We’ll come together to share our heartfelt stories and celebrate her life in faith on Saturday morning between 9:00 am and 11:00 am at St. Joseph The Worker Parish, St. Aloysius Church 37 W. Haddon Ave., Oaklyn where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Link at 11:00 am. A graveside tribute and the witness of love’s reunion will follow on the consecrated ground at New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bayada Hospice Services www.bayada.com/hospice-care.com 500 Grove St. Suite 300, Haddon Heights, NJ 08035
