Marie Bertha (Krai) Swanson, 93, died peacefully on May 8, 2017 in Venice, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Swanson, infant son Thomas, adult son Robert Jr., parents Peter Krai and Marianna Skowronek Krai, brother Frank Krai, and nephew Peter Krai. Marie is survived by son William Swanson, daughter Betty Swanson Cashman and her husband Dale, daughter Beverly Swanson Frank and her husband Bob, and brother William Krai. Her cherished and loved grandchildren are Michael Swanson (Amanda), Mathew Swanson, Kelsie Frank Parks (Elliot), Karen Frank, Kristin Frank and Sara Cashman
Marie was born on February 16, 1924 in Camden, NJ. She grew up in South Jersey except for a brief period in Philadelphia, PA. She worked at Curtis Publishing Company, Philadelphia in the subscription department before marrying her beloved husband of 71 years, Bob. While raising four young children, she enjoyed being a full time homemaker, later returning to work outside of the home as a bookkeeper. This eventually led to a position of office manager for over twenty years at Interstate Planning, an insurance agency in Merchantville, NJ.
Marie's greatest joy was being with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed reading, spending time near the ocean, and playing pinochle with the Oaklyn Girls Card Club. She was interested in genealogy, health and nutrition and keeping up with current events. After retiring she and husband, Bob, traveled along with Bob's brother, Richard, and his wife Kay exploring and discovering new places. She often spoke of how special these trips were to her and how much there was to learn about
our beautiful country. The last six years of her life she wintered and eventually lived year round at her son's home in Venice, FL. There she enjoyed being near the water and discovering with her son all the best places to enjoy fresh local seafood. She was truly blessed.
Marie was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Oaklyn, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited to the Viewing on Monday, May 15 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the Gathering Room at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 409 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn, NJ. Memorial Services to follow at 11:00 AM at the Church. Interment at Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill.
