Joan C. Shuda

Joan Carolyn Shuda of Shamong passed away on Thursday, January 8th at the age of 71. Born in Camden on May 1st, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Naomi and Guilford Heyn of Audubon and sister of Joyce Yahner of Estero, FL. Married in 1960, Joan was the devoted wife of Donald Shuda of Shamong. She is also lovingly survived by her children Diana Kendrick of Boxborough, Massachusetts and Douglas Shuda of Sutton, New Hampshire. She was a loving grandmother to six beautiful grandchildren including Michaella Kendrick, Chase Shuda, Caroline Shuda, Victoria Shuda, Katherine Shuda and Benjamin Kendrick.
Joan grew up in Audubon, and as an adult lived in Western New York, Massachusetts and returned to New Jersey. She attended Audubon High School, received a BFA from Boston University and completed post-graduate studies later in life. She was a professional artist and art teacher. She specialized in pen and ink and watercolors, and was a member and president of the Chelmsford Art Society in Massachusetts. Over the years, she was an avid homemaker, sewer, quilter, gardener, canner, cook and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. A lifelong faithful Christian, she most recently attended Shawnee Baptist Church. She fought and conquered four separate occurrences of breast cancer and spent many years helping others with cancer by participating in and fundraising for the Boston Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks, Reach to Recovery, Daffodil Days, Bosom Buddies and the Philadelphia based American Cancer Society Bike-a-thon.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, January 24th, 2009 at 2:00pm at Shawnee Baptist Church.
