July 26, 1928 — November 29, 2021

George “Bucky” Pipito, age 93, of Haddon Township NJ passed away peacefully on November 29, 2021.  George was born 1928 in Camden NJ to the late George (1891-1944) and Margaret (Pilla) Pipito (1900-1963).  After graduating from Camden High School in 1946, he received a full baseball scholarship to Villanova University.  Instead, George signed a contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers minor league farm system at age 18.  He went on to be scouted by the Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals.  His career was interrupted by his Army service in the Korean War.  After the war, he went to work for RCA Camden but stayed active in sports.  George retired from RCA after 36 years of service in 1989.  George was inducted into the South Jersey Fastpitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1993.  George was a die-hard sports fan, rarely missing a televised Oakland (Philadelphia) A’s game and never missing a Philadelphia Eagles game.  George will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his commitment to the church, and his passion for keeping his lawn meticulous.

George is predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy (Riegel) Pipito (1926-2012), and his brothers: Stephen (1918-1944), Michael (1920-1971), and Alfred (1924-2019), and his longtime friend Gertrude "Pidge" (Jennings) Saunders (1928-2019).

George is survived by his sons Stephen (Joe) of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and George Jr. (Francine) of Haddon Township, NJ, as well as three grandchildren: Gabrielle (Ishon), George III and Aaron, and great-granddaughter, Skye.  George is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
