Francis Joseph Richartz
July 25, 1917 — July 14, 2015
Francis Joseph Richartz, formerly of Audubon, NJ, and most recently residing at the Brookdale Senior Living Residence, Florence, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, just 10 days shy of his 98th birthday.
"Joe" was the beloved husband of Mildred G. Richartz (deceased), father of Gayle (Bob) Wallace of Edgewater Park and Terry (Emmalinda) Richartz of Cherry Hill. Devoted grandfather of Lisa Wallace, Dana (Stan) Blackburn, Cynthia (Ivan) Reyes, Jeffrey and Patrick Richartz. Loving great-grandfather of Wesley, Andrew, Lily & Luke Blackburn, and Isabella and Ivan Reyes. He is also survived by his wonderful, loving family of staff and residents at Brookdale, where he resided for the past 12 years. Their care and compassion was so very appreciated by Joe's family.
Joe was a graduate of Audubon High School, 1934, where he had the distinction of being class valedictorian. Post high school, he attended Temple University. A naval architect for 45 years, Joe had the pleasure of designing ships, not only for private enterprise, but very often for U.S. Naval contracts. After retirement, Joe kept very busy with gardening, 10 mile bike rides, creating beautiful counted cross stitch pictures and caring for his wife after she suffered a stroke. No matter where Joe went, he always took a book with him. An avid reader, he still enjoyed all the newest bestsellers. His family will always remember his kindness, his wonderful disposition, his positive outlook and his devotion to the Phillies (even during ‘challenging' seasons) and especially the Philadelphia Eagles. He was always ready to discuss the outcome of an Eagles' game, and he remained forever optimistic about each season.
Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 10-11 am, followed by a brief service at the Henry Funeral Home, 152 W. Atlantic Avenue, Audubon, NJ 08106. Burial will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, White Horse Pike, Berlin, NJ.
