Francis P. Loeber
On September 21, 2025 in Newton, MA, formerly of Haddon Twp., NJ, age 93.
Beloved husband to the late Anne C. (Nancy) Loeber, loving father of Franz (Marci), Christopher (Laura), and Amy Rotonda (Vince); dear grandfather of Campbell Shea (Barrett), Christopher Jr., Connor, F. Paul III, Meghan, Ashley, Chloe Rotonda, and Eden Rotonda; great-grandfather of Laura Elizabeth Shea.
Fran was predeceased by his parents, Loretta and Joseph Loeber of Oaklyn, New Jersey, as well as all 8 of his siblings. He is survived by 6 brothers-in-law, 4 sisters-in-law, and 57 nieces and nephews.
Known for his many roles (Dad, Pop, Brother, Brother-in-Law, Uncle Franny, and Friend), Fran lived life to the fullest. An avid baseball fan, he played and later briefly coached at LaSalle College (now University) in Philadelphia. And, though Fran mastered many other sports -- and enjoyed playing golf -- skiing was his true athletic passion.
As a rank beginner, Fran was offered a free ski lesson, which he didn’t realize at the time was for experts only. But the price was right, and Fran was ever the optimist – and so the Skimeister was born. From the Poconos, to Vermont, to the biggest resorts “Out West” and across Europe, Fran would conquer them all. More than just a technically perfect skier, Fran was the quintessential guide – running multiple trips each winter and patiently passing his skills on to generations of family and friends alike. Never one to quit, the Skimeister was still schussing the Alps at the ripe young age of 87.
Summers would find Fran on the Jersey shore. First in Sea Isle, where he coordinated many a family reunion -- and presided over annual beach softball games, and too many rounds of Gin Rummy to count. In later years, it was Ocean City. After a day of boating with friends -- i.e., the tow companies who routinely brought his disabled crafts back to the marina – Fran would relax with a VO Manhattan or port and cigars. And he was always up for a quick jaunt to Atlantic City to try his hand at the blackjack tables. Above all else, Fran was a loving and dedicated family man. Giving all he had to his wife and children, his life was a masterclass in being a man for others. The Skimeister made the very most of his time on Earth – and can now enjoy his eternal reward in Heavenly Valley.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet for visitation on Friday, October 10th at 9:00 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 200 Windsor Ave. Haddonfield, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA. In lieu of flowers, Fran’s family would appreciate memorial donations to Good Shepherd Community Care of Newton, MA (https://gscommunitycare.org), the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or another charity of your choice.
