Walter Kimakovich

March 2, 1925 — October 5, 2022

Haddon Twp

It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy that makes happiness. Walter N Kimakovich was just a regular guy who believed life was in fact, simple. Stay low, stay quiet, embrace faith and enjoy what you have. “Mr. Wally” was a small-town guy who lived a life full of generosity, thoughtfulness, and with an obsession for tomatoes.

Does anybody know the better side of death and glory, the border between heaven and earth? It’s where we move lightly. To see the world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wildflower, you hold infinity in your hand and eternity in an hour. On Wednesday, October 5, 2022, we learned how terrible it was to love something death can touch. After 97 years, we unexpectedly turned “Pop Pop” over from time to eternity and his soul rose like incense from Samaritan Inpatient Hospice, Mt. Holly.

Walter was born in Camden and had spent his formative years there. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, class of 1942 where he had been President of the student council and helped manage the high school baseball and basketball teams. His home contributed to the manpower of our nation, upholding the ideas of our American freedoms as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army. Walter made his career working as a postal clerk, walking 5 miles to and from work each day. He retired from the Oaklyn Post Office after 40 years. Following his retirement, “Mr. Wally” worked as a crossing guard for the Stoy School in Haddon Twp. for 20 years. Mr. Kimakovich was a dedicated, longtime, and active parishioner of St. Teresa of Calcutta parish, Holy Saviour Church in Haddon Twp. where he served as an usher. At home, Walter enjoyed spending time in the garden and looking for a better move on the chess board. He enjoyed his daily walks and morning coffee with his friends at Mcdonald's. Walt spent Saturday mornings over breakfast with his siblings and nephews. Sunday mornings he visited his grandsons, checked their rooms, and offered up the coveted “bonuses”.

Mr. Kimakovich is the son of the late Nicholas and the late Rose (nee Kret). He was recently predeceased by his devoted wife of 76 years, Virginia (nee Adamski).

Walter is survived by his children Judy & her husband Steven Smith and Dennis Kimakovich. He is the proud grandfather of Daniel and Eric Smith. Mr. Kimakovich is the brother of Dolores, the late Anne, and the late Richard and is also survived and will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews.

Relatives, friends, neighbors, and parishioners are invited to gather with the Kimakovich family. We’ll be sharing our heartfelt stories between 10:00 am and 11:00 am at St. Teresa Calcutta Parish, Holy Saviour Church 50 Emerald Ave. Haddon Twp. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. At the family’s request, everyone attending is asked to wear a mask or facial covering. Inurnment and the witness of love’s reunion will be held privately. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee, Inc. www.uuarc.org 1206 Cottman Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19111 (215) 728-1630
